TACO or ESCALATION: That Is The Question
Weekend Risk
Client Kirk just sent this reminder that it is expected Congress votes on the War Powers Act early next week.
Should this pass, it would likely reign in Trump’s power to wage war with Iran, and put all politicians on record as to their vote for/against war with Iran.
The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote on a war powers resolution related to Iran during the week of March 2, 2026, as Democratic leaders have pledged to force the vote as soon as the House reconvenes on March 2. No exact date within the week has been specified, but it’s described as one of the first items on the agenda. The Senate has a similar pending resolution introduced by Sens. Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Rand Paul (R-KY), but no immediate vote is scheduled there.
The vote centers on the bipartisan Khanna-Massie resolution, which invokes the War Powers Resolution of 1973 (commonly called the War Powers Act) to direct the President to terminate U.S. Armed Forces’ involvement in hostilities against Iran unless Congress explicitly authorizes it via a declaration of war or specific use-of-force legislation. This comes amid heightened U.S. military presence in the region during nuclear negotiations, with the resolution aiming to reassert congressional authority over war decisions. The measure is expected to face strong Republican opposition and may not pass, though it forces members to go on record.
With that, this only increases the risk of Iran escalation as WEEKEND RISK!
